Music

At the moment I'm feeling like I've bitten off a little more than I can chew....although I've always had a big mouth and fingers crossed am coping. I'm trying to get an incredible amount of study done sandwiched between the weekend I recently spent in Adelaide, and this weekend when I am going to SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS. There's nothing like a deadline that is a Music Festival (with some kicking kicking bands) to get you motivated to study! And my handy little Corolla has been saving me a little bit of time here and there, so everything is working together.

Exciting events of the week
  • I finally discovered Bloc Party....a bit late I know, but in time to make sure I don't miss them at Splendour. I really just bought the Splendour tickets with the attitude- I want to see Powderfinger and The Kaiser Chiefs, and I'm sure the other bands will be awesome. However having recently jumped on The Arctic Monkeys and Bloc Party bandwagons, along with a heap of other bands I am so excited.
  • I've been getting back into Triple J. I've loved it for a long time, but haven't really listened to it. But now its in my car, and I've plugged in my clock radio again to listen in the morning, and while I study...makes me happy to get back into new music. Also discovered the Triple J Unearthed page- unsigned Aussie acts...have found so much great stuff there.
  • Christened my new Jamie Oliver Tefal Shark-Ridge (Steak Pan) with a juicy juicy kangaroo steak. Worth EVERY dollar. Tried some middle-grade beek steak on it tonight- even better...I think I sense some gradual purchasing of superior quality kitchen implements coming on.
  • Crazy at work. Reviews maybe this week.

Home is where the heart is...

I sometimes have a bit of trouble coming up with a reflex answer to the question: So, where are you from? But this morning, as I drove away from 1 Mathias Avenue, Cumberland Park, Adelaide I definitely felt like that is home. I've never stayed there for more than a few nights, I don't have a bed let alone a bedroom, but that is where my whole family is now, and I felt quite sad to leave.

So this weekend was a super fast Adelaide visit. Fly in Saturday morning, drive out Sunday (in my Corolla!!). It was great, I think that Adelaide is one of Australia's best kept secrets (especially from Melbourne people, who just don't get it!)...

So the weekend:
  • Getting to the airport and meeting my new car. Thanks Dad! You did such a wonderful buy, and thanks so much for cleaning it all up, carpetcleaning the interior and servicing for me!
  • A haircut. I was almost going to fly home just for this purpose. Our (all the girls in my family love her) hairdresser always does a great job and goes right through the styling process. She talked me into a new Barbie doll pink hairdryer/hairstraightener combo that was on special. I gave them a quick test run and they are awesome (my first straightener).
  • Lunch with Mon and Mum at Marmalade. Yum- the focaccia's there are great.
  • Spa and cider with Mon and Hayley + gossip. A spa above your body temperature is the best way to relax
  • Just chilling at home, if even only for a few hours
  • Woodfire Oven pizzas. Gourmet. Made in our backyard. What more could you ask for! Better than the focaccias I had for lunch!
  • Breakfast with John at A Perfect Cup on King William. Also very yum.
Well that was a big 24 hour effort! I DIDN'T buy Harry Potter on Satuday, because I knew that if I did it would interfere with my assignment (due this Sunday and barely started) badly. So as soon as I press submit I'm off to buy it!

To facebook or not to facebook

So I managed to avoid the whole myspace fad, which seems to have very much been overtaken by facebook...and after receiving several invitations I have to ask myself is it time to join? Do I want to track down people I went to highschool with? Those people I met backpacking in Serbia? Will I cave into peer pressure?

Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix

I know not everyone is a Harry Potter fan- but I am. The books are fantastic (only 4 sleeps until the finale arrives) and the movies are great, because its interesting to see how a book that requires so much imagination is interpreted by other people. And you find out how to say Hermione and Seamus.

Last night I FINALLY (its been out for nearly a week) went down to Cinema Nova to see the movie with Maree and Lucy. Dude, the movies only cost $7.50 there on Mondays!

The special effects are amazing, and the movie was just speeding along. I was a bit sceptical about the actress playing Dolores Umbridge, but Imelda Stanton was terrifying, and made the movie.

Luna Lovegood was great fun too. All the scenery and costumes were really rich!

The Dursley scenes at the opening were some of my favourites too. They are just so ridiculous and cruel while being hilarious. Aunt Petunias outfit was great.

Seeing as my Sunday is now taken up with driving from Adelaide to Melbourne in MY NEW CAR (excited in case you couldn't tell) and I have to finish as assignment for my CA next week I think I might have to chuck a sickie to read the book!!

Monica's Formal

Well my family must be all grown up now! My little sister had her year 12 formal last weekend, and looked very swish! I'm sorry I wasn't there for the whole affair. Monica looked beautiful.

Car!

Today was a big day! I bought this car. Well rather I saw it on the internet, Dad drove out to Sailsbury (the Frankston of Adelaide) to check it out, and bought it on my behalf. So I was running around tonight figuring out where the money would come from, insurance, rego, transfer, ambulance cover (Victorians are crazy!), etc. So I am flying to Adelaide next weekend to pick it up and its all very exciting!!

Bledisloe

I went off to the Bledisloe expecting a good game and Australia to lose. Instead it was a pretty crappy game that Australia won. But the atmosphere of 80,000 plus people in the MCG, the haka...it was all pretty amazing...So the question after the game is what does that mean about the world cup campaigns for Australia and New Zealand...
