Goodbye to public holidays for a while

I have serious concerns as to how I am going to get through today's working day- hence why I am blogging to procrastinate at 9:00am, instead of getting stuck into it. Work continues to be pretty good, and I am continuing to learn and improve (although there are these jobs that I feel I am only inching toward completion on)...I haven't been out on an audit- yet, (I was going to go this week, but didn't because I didn't get my work done- no going out to play when you haven't done your homework) but I am fully booked out on audits in the next couple of months, so I will figure out then if I like it.

In other news: Hayley and George visited me the week before last- that was cool, thanks guys (we got out to Cookie which was a cool bar, had drinks and pizza at Bimbo deluxe...where I seem to be going too often lately, Laughapalooza at the Melbourne comedy festival, and enough shopping to last me until I lose some of my Europe weight and can buy nice clothes). Then Monica my little sis visited myself and Maree all this week- fun times, more Bimbo deluxe, wondering about the city and a pilgrimage to Bunnings for more herbs. D&Ms with tea, mint slice and biccies and cheese with Cassie and Mel- just what I need at the moment (CONGRATS MEL!). This weekend Cassie has planned two nights of bar hopping. Yay.

In other news- to fill the gap in my life left by the depressing state of Aussie politics I have because addicted to The West Wing. I am also currently addicted to Bimbo Deluxe's pizza's (and cider), rocket, and am trying to get more addicted to going to the gym.

Football Update

Well it looks as though I am to become a football player. My first training session was not too challenging- there was a practice match between the girls in our own club, and I just went on for like 5 minutes. That said, I am really happy I went, because I was really nervous about going and meeting a heap of new people, and having a go at a quite athletic sport when I am not very athletic and don't know how the sport works. Everyone was really friendly (and there were some great nicknames going around) and nobody seemed to mind that I didn't really know what was going on.

The game doesn't seem so complicated- definitely not as logical as rugby with its nice straight lines, AFL seems a lot more chaotic, but definitely graspable. The fitness is something I am going to have to work on. There were two laps around the oval to start training, and thank goodness I missed the first (due to meeting people, being put on a team, etc) because I don't think I could have made two. Luckily the oval is near my house, so I think I am going to get out there and do some laps so I don't completely embarrass myself at future trainings.

Hayley and I should be catching a match this weekend, so I can see the pros at work- although I must say from what I saw last night I think our club has a few really awesome players.

One of those days

This looks like another one of those weeks where every day feels like Friday! So what better way to burn some work time by (finally) updating my blog. Well I haven't done this for a while because there hasn't been anything too exciting happening, but I think I finally have enough tidbits gathered together to give a half interesting post.

Last Friday I had my first staff social day, and it was really quite fun. What did we do? No sitting in front of a whiteboard talking about a company direction that is never going to eventuate with some crappy sandwiches for lunch...instead we went bowling. So after out two games of bowling, where I was bad but not dismal, we went to lunch at a pretty nice pub/cafe. Some competitiveness between people in my firm meant that after lunch we had to go back for another few games to decide title of the best ten pin bowler in the universe. After 2 ciders with lunch, and a few more assorted drinks back at the bowling alley I wasn't bowling at my best- and my best is pretty crappy to begin with. But it was a fun day, and it didn't feel all stuffy and staged, everyone was having fun.

Back in the real line of work- accounting- I have been having a crappy couple of weeks trying to get rid of a few jobs that are bogging me down...but I should be rid of them by Easter. Talking of Easter, Hayley and George are coming over from Adelaide for the holiday in exchange for Maree who is going over to Adelaide for her uni break. It should be a fun couple of days with shopping, going out, footy and looking about Melbourne on the agenda.

Again, talking of footy I made a decision this week- I have to get out and meet some people, and after racking my brains about what to do (seriously finding random social events out of uni is hard) I am giving women's footy a go. I am nervous about it because I think it involves a lot of running around, and not enough tackling. However after watching the footy highlights on TV these past few weeks I have upgraded the sport a little in the physical stakes- there is some tackling, although I do doubt I will get as good a bruises as I used to from Rugby. I going to give it a go tonight at training, they have a division 3 team, so hopefully that will match my lack of skills, knowledge and aerobic fitness. Hope there aren't tryouts. With three teams there seems to be a pretty active social side to the club which will be good.

Lastly, Monnie (my little sis) is coming over for the not-quite-a-long-weekend Anzac day weekend, and I am looking forward to hanging out with you Mon!
